As the Obamacare exchanges open for enrollment October 1, 2013, computer security companies are expecting a spate of new phishing expeditions from hackers attempting to steal people’s identities as they attempt to sign up for the newly created exchanges.
Computer users should be on the outlook for ploys involving enrollment in Obamacare as the massive, yet glitchy, rollout of hundreds of sights for enrollment of the public go live.
Here are some tips from McAfee that might help prevent you from becoming a victim of such scams:
1. Install patches on your operating system as soon as possible to prevent hackers from exploiting known security vulnerabilities.
2. Download the most up-to-date version of your Internet browser to deploy the latest security measures.
3. Double check the domain name of a website to ensure it’s legitimate. Look for “https:” in the URL to confirm SSL encryption is being used.
