The Scam: You are contacted via phone or email by a “new government agency” so you can be signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Just give the representative your personal information and you will receive your insurance card and with that, your benefits.
What to Do: This is not how the government is signing people up for coverage under the new legislation. Do not give out any personal details over the phone to anyone claiming to be a government employee. To learn how to apply for benefits, visit www.healthcare.gov.
